A leader in educating artists, designers, and scholars since 1866, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) seeks exceptional candidates for full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty positions—a printmaker in the Department of Printmedia, and a design historian to join the Department of Art History, Theory, and Criticism—that begin in August 2012. The ideal candidates will join the ranks of 159 renowned full-time faculty who are leading practitioners in their fields and committed, progressive educators.



Located in the heart of Chicago, the School is one of the largest private schools of art and design in the country with programs that reflect current practices in art. SAIC's educational philosophy is built upon a transdisciplinary approach to art and design that provides unparalleled opportunities for students to develop their creative and critical abilities. SAIC's resources include the Art Institute of Chicago museum with its Print and Drawing Collection of over 60,000 prints and 11,500 drawings from the 15th century to the present, and the Architecture and Design Department whose programming and collections focus on progressive thinking and practice across all design disciplines. Numerous special collections and programming venues provide faculty and students with exceptional exhibitions, screenings, lectures, and performances.



The Printmedia faculty will teach undergraduate courses, and work individually with graduate students in the tutorial fashion for which SAIC's MFA program is known. The Design Historian will provide courses to support the Master of Architecture, Master of Design, and Master of Art History programs as well as undergraduate courses in art history.

SAIC offers undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate programs in art, design, art history and art-related fields to 3,250 students from across the globe—2,550 undergraduates and 700 graduate students. Degree tracks include the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio; BFA with Emphasis in Art Education, Art History, or Writing; BA and MA in Visual and Critical Studies; BIA (Interior Architecture); Master of Architecture; Master of Design in Designed Objects or Fashion, Body and Garment; Master of Fine Arts in Studio or Writing; Master of Art degrees in Arts Administration; Art Education; Art History, Theory, and Criticism; Art Therapy; New Arts Journalism; Teaching; and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation.
