ART COLOGNE 2017
26 – 29 April 2017
Vernissage: Tuesday, 25 April 2017, 4:00–8:00 p.m.

The upcoming ART COLOGNE offers top quality at all levels, from modern through contemporary art to works of young artists fresh from the studio in the new sector "NEUMARKT". 200 globally renowned galleries will show works by around 2,000 artists. In the process, the art fair can once again credit itself with a bonus of internationality for its 51st edition. "Blue chip" galleries like David Zwirner, Hauser & Wirth and, for the first time this year, Gagosian will be coming from the USA. Pearl Lam is coming from Hong Kong, David Kordansky from Los Angeles and WHITE CUBE from London. Furthermore, France, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary and many other countries are also represented.

Among the "global players" of the art scene are also Thaddeus Ropac (Salzburg/Paris), Michael Werner (Berlin/Cologne/ New York/London), Sprüth Magers (Berlin/London/Los Angeles), Karsten Greve (Cologne/Paris/St. Moritz), Max Hetzler (Berlin/Paris), Perrotin (Paris/New York/Hong Kong) and Daniel Templon (Paris/Brussels) to name a few.

At Hall 11.2 Contemporary Art, Hauser & Wirth (London) will be showing paintings and drawings from Philippe Vandenberg and sculptures by Phyllida Barlow, while David Zwirner (New York) gallery is presenting the Canadian Stan Douglas, who is known for his highly complex and technically perfect film and video works.

First-time participants WHITE CUBE (London) will offer works by Imi Knoebel, Christian Marclay and Tracey Emin; while David Kordansky (Los Angeles) will show the abstract paintings of Jon Pestoni. Further highlights include Michael Werner Kunsthandel (Cologne)¡¯s presentation of Sigmar Polke¡¯s mixed technique on printed fabric with the title "Es war der Gärtner (It was the gardener)" from the year 1977; as well as photographic works by Lori Nix and Anett Stuth and also sculptural works by Tony Cragg, Stephan Balkenhol at Deweer Gallery (Otegem), Stella Hamberg at Galerie Eigen + Art (Berlin/Leipzig) and Saskia Norr van Imhoff at Fons Welters (Amsterdam) and much more.

Galerie Ludorff (Düsseldorf) will present Gabriele Münter's painting "Rootes Moos (red moss)" from the year 1959, as well as with a chalk drawing by August Macke, which shows a cafe scene in Tunisia at Hall 11.1 Modern & Postwar Art section. The section further features the Galerie Maulberger (Munich)¡¯s exhibition which honours the 100th birthday of Karl Fred Dahmen. Young French gallery Antoine Levi (Paris) joins hands with Daniel Marzona (Berlin) for the exhibition of the works of Francesco Gennari, Piotr Makowski and Aron Mehzion – all three artists have a passion for science and philosophy in common. Also worthy of note, is the collaborations between Cosar HMT (Düsseldorf) and Gallery Sophie van de Velde (Antwerp), which will show works by Sara Sizer, who removes paint with chemical bleach, Germaine Kruip, and the sculptor Erika Hock – whose fictitious pieces of furniture alternate between sculpture and design. Her solo show at the Philara Foundation Düsseldorf will also be open on April 27, coinciding with Art Cologne.
